Hughes recommits to Sharks

Bonbeach Football Netball Club (BFNC) senior coach Steve Hughes has accepted a one year extension to his contract that will see him remain at the Sharks’ helm in 2018.

It will be Hughes’ fourth season in charge and follows the conclusion of a coaching review that focussed on continuing the strong development of the playing group that has occurred under his guidance.

On the back of a commitment to developing local talent together with strategic recruitment, Hughes has steadily lifted the Sharks from seventh in 2015 to now be among the top premiership contenders. He said the success and unity of the club was a driving factor.

“I’m very excited to recommit for 2018 and I appreciate the club’s ongoing support. The footy department will continue to work hard to give our players every opportunity to improve and achieve the success that we all aim for,” he said.

Development and nurture of skilled youngsters from Bonbeach YCW Junior Football Club through BFNC’s Player Academy Program has been a key platform of the senior team’s talent pool under Hughes.

Along with off-field support through club initiatives including Outside The Locker Room, Hughes has blooded teenage prospects including Lachie Gill-Renouf (Casey VFL listed), Beau Bailey (Sandringham VFL), Tom Hogan, Lachlan Stenning (both Stingrays listed) and Ben Hogan.

The excitement associated with this has resulted in strong growth in sponsorship, membership and crowd numbers at home games across the last three seasons.

The club is thrilled to be in a position of continued stability. Steve’s results with the playing group speak for themselves and our progress as a club off field has been greatly assisted by Steve’s commitment, hard work and genuine care of all those at the club.

Steve’s integrity and alignment with club values makes him a valuable member of the Bonbeach family. We are thrilled to continue our drive for premiership success with Steve in charge.”
