Bonbeach reserves appointment a wise move

Former Bonbeach Football Club forward Adam Wiseman has been appointed as the new reserves coach for 2019, completing an experienced off-field team at Shark Park.

The 46 year-old from Langwarrin will take the reins from 2018 mentor Corey Johnson who was forced to step aside due to personal and work commitments.

Adam played junior football in under 15s and 16s with Bonbeach before spending two stints as a strong marking reserves forward who also played senior football with the club.

Most recently Adam has been involved with Langwarrin Junior Football Club, coaching the younger grades for the last three years. He said the time was right for a move to senior football.

“Matt (Lowe) knew me from juniors as I coached against his young bloke, and contacted me to see if I knew of anyone who might be interested in the reserves job. First he asked me if I was interested and it was perfect, because I had just stepped away from junior coaching,” he said.

Adam met with senior coaches Steve Hughes and Trent Dennis-Lane on Friday and was appointed to the important support role on Saturday.

He says his football philosophy is fairly simple and is looking forward to the challenge of helping create club success this season.

“I believe the reserves are the glue of the club and seconds football is pretty simple in the end. You don’t have to over complicate it, you get the fundamentals right and the rest looks after itself,” he said.

“Moulding the club as a unit is the key to success and that will be one of my main focuses from the start. I’m really excited by the challenge.”

Adam is married to Naomi and is a father of three – daughters Zara 16 and Penny 14, and son Joel 12.
