Vale Sonny Carpenter

The past and present members of the Bonbeach Football Netball Club pay tribute to ‘Sonny’ Carpenter, a giant figure of our local community and lifelong friend of our club.
Sonny’s connection to our club goes back to when our club started in 1962, as he was the man first approached to coach the BFC. Unable to commit, ‘Sonny’ suggested brother-in-law Max King to coach and provided our first set of jumpers from his club Carrum, to get us started.
The Carpenter name later became synonymous in our club, with his boys Dale & Leigh part of our first senior Premiership in 1979, with ‘Sonny’ himself being an important ‘Trainer’ of that historical side. More recent times saw his son Dale coach us and grandson Gary’s stellar career with Sam also playing for our club.
The most notable memory of ‘Sonny’ will be his daily walk from his Cannes Ave home. Not a day has past in the last 60 years without ‘Sonny’ walking our great reserve. His presence will be immediately missed. We pay tribute to ‘Sonny’ and send our heartfelt condolences to Leigh, Dale, Brett and families. Rest peacefully mate
